As their name implies, high bay LED lights are used to illuminate spaces with high ceilings. That usually means ceilings ranging from 20 feet to approximately 45 feet. Low-bay lights, on the other hand, are used for ceilings 20 feet and under. Because a high-ceiling location has more space to fill, a high bay light is a powerful light source that can brighten up a large area. Here are some examples of what wrap lighting fixtures look like:
Generally, if you have a ceiling height 10 feet or under, high bay led lights that are around 100 watts and deliver 10000-12000 lumens are recommended. For ceiling heights 10-19 feet, high bay fixtures in the 125–175-watt (12000-21000 lumens) range are commonly used. As the ceiling height increases the wattage and the lumen output should also increase:
- 20-30 feet = 200-300 watt (22000-35000 lumens)
- 31-40 feet = 300-400 watt (35000-47000 lumens)
- 40+ feet = 400+ watt (47000+ lumens)
However, the dimensions of the space you are lighting and what the space is being used for will ultimately determine how many high bay lights are required. Spacing for ceiling heights should be as follows:
- 10-foot ceiling (12-15 feet apart)
- 20 foot ceiling (15-19 feet apart)
- 30 foot ceiling (19-29 feet apart)
- 40 foot ceiling (30-40 feet apart)
The dimensions of the space you are lighting and what the space is being used for will ultimately determine how many high bay lights are required.
